The ANIMAL SCIENCES TRAINING SERVICES STORY

Our Philosophy

Current training methods do not always meet expectation of facility managers or cater to the needs of individual facilities. ASTS offers you the opportunity to get involved with your staff’s education and training by offering a range of delivery methods as well as topic selection to meet your needs.

Why train your staff? We believe that with better training, technicians can improve the welfare of animals and assist in delivering sound results for researchers. What does ASTS offer: Our focus is on the Animal Technology field.

We specialise in the Certificate III in Animal Technology, the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Laboratory operations. We also develop short courses specific to the animal technology industry: Animal handling and husbandry short courses Employee Induction programs Animal ethics and welfare programs for new researchers ASTS can tailor a program to allow your staff to complete their training in the work place with our staff coming to your facility to do training.

Our Training Strategies

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

Recognition of Prior Learning is a method most appropriate for students who have worked in industry for a while and have relevant evidence to back up their application. They need not have an older qualification to gain RPL.

Recognition of Current Competency (RCC):

Recognition of current competency is for the staff member who would like to upgrade to the new course from the previ- ous training package. Currency implies the candidates skills are from the present or very recent past. The candidate must have a formal qualification in the relevant field of em- ployment.

Assessment only:

This type of training is designed for the technician who may not have enough experience or evidence to apply for an RPL or qualifications for RCC. ASTS will conduct a training needs analysis in conjunction with your facility to determine where there are gaps. As we are able to travel, we can train your students at your workplace and offer the units that suit your facility.
